How to Choose the Right Real Estate Agent
So you need to sell or buy. How do you go about finding the right agent to help facilitate the deal? Sure you can probably do it all on your own but how do you know if all the legal jargon and contracts are done correctly to protect you now and in the future? What about selling? Without an agent are you ready to put forth all the cost, time and effort that goes into marketing a property? And without the main marketing influence of the local MLS, there is little chance your home will be seen by any other agent.
There is really no replacement for the typical real estate agent but there are good ones and bad ones. The key is sifting through all the hundreds of options and finding one that fits your needs and lifestyle.
1. Find an agent that specializes in your need
Are you a buyer or seller? Many agents specialize in one or the other. Most can do both but it helps to find an agent that loves doing one or the other. Their passion becomes your need and its much easier to accomplish what you set out to do in the first place. 2. Ask for referrals
You want to know your agent has a good and reputable background. Many times good agents are found by word of mouth than any other way. Bad news travels faster than good so keep your ears open for the right agent and don't feel embarrassed to ask for references.
3. Ask how many homes has the agent sold.
This is different than listed. An agent can list 100 homes but if only 2 have sold, there may be something wrong with the agents marketing techniques.
4. Find someone you actually feel comfortable with.
Remember, you are going to be spending at least a month with this person, and usually more depending on your need. Make sure you like the person and feel comfortable with the way they do business. Make sure they are looking out for your best interest and not just trying to make a sale.
